Bridging Physical and Digital Identities
Decolonizing Digital Fashion.
A cultural back-pack
This project questions how a virtual world that embodies cultural self-expression, would evolve the human interactions with physical garments.
It is about understanding how our digital identities can differ from our physical appearances and transform.
The project delves into ways of intervening in the design industry’s ongoing practices to create a personalized way of experiencing craft and culture. The aim is to harness technology and blend it with cultural heritage, as a way of redefining and challenging our modes of interaction with cultural artifacts and fashion. While producing a ‘phygital’ (physical and digital) experience, aided by an interactive garment, my work explores deep-rooted South Asian identities, digital presence, and Indigenous crafts, with the goal of creating a more inclusive digital fashion experience.
To build a community and allow wearers to share their unique digital identities, the garments can be populated with their own personalized digital
artifacts. Additionally, the digital objects can take distinctive bodily forms to become digital wearables.
